Participants are invited to take part in the following online (remote) study.
1. Purpose of the Study: The purpose of this study is to investigate how Korean EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners process English sentences, in comparison with native speakers of English.
2. Eligibility
We are recruiting 30 adult native speakers of English (aged 18 or older) who
1) acquired English as their first language and continue to use it as their primary language, and
2) were raised in the United States or Canada and lived in North America.
Participants will be excluded if they
1) have lived in Korea for six months or longer, or
2) majored in language-related fields.
3. Study Procedure: Participants will first answer ten questions about their language background. They will then read a total of 40 English sentences and answer a two-choice comprehension question for each sentence. Finally, they will complete a brief online English vocabulary test. The study is a one-time participation and will take approximately 15-20 minutes.
4. Study Period and Requirements
1) Period: From the date of IRB approval until recruitment is completed (by February 2027). Each participant may take part only once.
2) Requirements: A laptop or desktop computer with an internet connection (No mobile devices)
5. Compensation: Participants who complete the study will receive a gift card worth 3,000 KRW (or equivalent) as compensation for their time.
6. How to Participate: Please access the following Google Form and submit your responses. Each participant may take part using only one link. Each link will close automatically after the first 9 participants have completed the study.
